The South Australian Government says a new artificial intelligence-powered bushfire detection network has helped emergency services identify and respond to nearly 90 unplanned fires since its rollout across the state’s Green Triangle forestry region. The system, supported by a $2.35 million government investment, uses AI-enabled cameras and satellite technology to detect smoke and fire activity across more than one million hectares in the Limestone Coast and surrounding areas. Ministers Chris Picton and Clare Scriven said the technology allows firefighters to respond earlier when fires are smaller and easier to contain. Managed by the Green Triangle Fire Alliance, the network has detected fires caused by lightning strikes, vehicle incidents, electrical faults and escaped burn-offs since being introduced.
