Advertiser Guide
Advertiser Guide
19News.au advertising is designed for Australian businesses that want clear local visibility beside news, community updates, weather, traffic and public interest coverage. The advertiser system is built around reviewed business profiles, paid plans, targeted placements and admin approval before public advertising appears. This guide explains the practical steps a business should understand before creating a profile or purchasing a plan.
What is 19News advertising?
Advertising on 19News.au allows local businesses to prepare a business profile, choose a paid package and submit advertising material for review. Public ad placements are separated from editorial content and labelled as Advertisement or Sponsored. The goal is to help readers identify commercial messages while giving businesses a structured way to reach people by city, state and topic. Advertising does not control editorial coverage, article approval or newsroom judgement.
Who can advertise?
Businesses, community organisations, venues, professional services, trades, retailers, tourism operators and other lawful Australian advertisers may apply. Every business profile starts with admin review. The review checks whether the profile is complete, whether the contact details look legitimate and whether the proposed advertising category is suitable for a local news environment. Approval can be delayed or declined if details are incomplete, misleading or inconsistent.
Available advertising options
Business Profile Listing gives a business a reviewed profile foundation with name, contact details, logo, description, category and location. Banner Ads let eligible advertisers submit image creative, destination URLs, placement choices and targeting details. City Sponsorship focuses visibility around a selected city or local area. Category Sponsorship connects campaigns with coverage areas such as weather, business, traffic or community news. Sponsored Articles let a business submit a story for review that may be published as clearly labelled Sponsored Content. Homepage Sponsor provides premium visibility on homepage placements where availability and entitlement allow it.
City and state targeting
Targeting helps ads appear where they are most relevant. Advertisers can choose city, state and category fields when creating ad submissions. Matching can prioritise exact city and category, then city, state plus category, state, national settings and finally an internal placeholder when no eligible paid ad is available. Accurate targeting improves relevance and reduces wasted impressions for businesses outside the reader's area.
How approval works
Approval happens in stages. First, the business profile is reviewed. Second, payment status and plan entitlement are checked. Third, each new or changed ad is submitted for admin review. Ads do not go live simply because a profile or payment exists. Admins can reject, expire or remove ads if the content breaches policy, has misleading claims, uses unsafe links, lacks required targeting or does not match the advertiser's plan.
How payment works through Stripe
Payments are handled through Stripe Checkout and the Stripe billing portal. Monthly plans use subscriptions. Sponsored Article is a one-time payment from $79. Stripe status is synced back to the advertiser profile so ads can be locked when payment fails, a subscription is cancelled or the plan no longer supports the requested feature. Secret payment keys are server-side; advertisers should only use the secure Stripe checkout or portal links shown in the business portal.
How ads are reviewed before going live
Ad review checks the image, title, destination URL, targeting, dates, placement and general policy fit. Ads must not imitate emergency alerts, system warnings or official notices. They must not promote scams, adult services, gambling, malware, illegal products or misleading medical or financial claims. Admin review protects readers, advertisers and the publication from unsafe or confusing commercial messages.
How performance tracking works
Eligible advertisers can see basic impressions, clicks, click-through rate, top placement and top city or category signals. Reporting is intended as a practical campaign guide, not a guaranteed billing metric. Browser privacy settings, frequency caps, invalid traffic and technical limits can affect counts. Admin reporting can export monthly CSV summaries for campaign review.
Contact and next steps
Businesses can begin by creating a business profile, reading the advertising policy and choosing a plan after profile details are ready. For questions about suitability, sponsored content, corrections or removal requests, contact 19News.au before submitting material. Clear information helps the admin team review campaigns faster.
