Prominent Brisbane bariatric surgeon Dr Vahid Reza Adib has been permitted to continue practising medicine without restrictions while criminal proceedings and a regulatory review are ongoing. The matter relates to allegations concerning an incident at a private residence in Burleigh Heads on the Gold Coast involving a woman in her 30s. Dr Adib, who is the long-term partner of former Queensland premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, recently appeared before a Gold Coast court for the first time. The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) has not placed conditions on his medical registration. The Office of the Health Ombudsman said practitioners must be given an opportunity to respond through a formal show cause process before immediate action is considered, in accordance with due process requirements.
