Two people have been charged following a non-fatal shooting in Melbourne’s north-western suburb of St Albans, according to Victoria Police.

Armed Crime Squad detectives arrested a 41-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman, both from Ardeer, at a short-term rental property in Greenvale on Wednesday, 14 October 2026. The arrests followed an investigation into a shooting that occurred the previous week.

Police allege the incident happened at approximately 5:10 pm on Friday, 9 October, in the car park of a fast-food outlet in St Albans. A 44-year-old man was sitting in the driver’s seat of a vehicle when another car approached.

Investigators allege that a shot was fired at the vehicle, followed by a second shot that struck the man in the lower body. The victim later attended a hospital for treatment. His injuries were described as non-life-threatening.

Police believe the shooting was targeted and that the people involved were known to one another. Investigators have not publicly established guilt, and the allegations will be tested through the court process. The arrests were carried out with assistance from the Special Operations Group. After being taken into custody, both suspects were interviewed by detectives and charged with a range of alleged offences.

The charges include intentionally causing injury, reckless conduct endangering life, discharging a firearm at a vehicle, using a firearm in a public place and possessing an unregistered handgun. Police also listed ammunition and prohibited-weapon offences, along with relevant drug-possession charges.

During the investigation, officers seized items including ammunition, a replica handgun, suspected cannabis, a Taser, a baton and mobile phones. These items have been reported as police seizures; their connection to any specific offence remains subject to the investigation and court proceedings.

Both accused were due to appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 15 October 2026. The case highlights continuing concerns about firearm-related crime in suburban areas. A shooting in a public car park can put not only the intended target but also workers, customers and other people nearby at risk. Police have emphasised that the current investigation indicates a targeted incident rather than a random attack.

Authorities have encouraged anyone with information about illegal firearm activity to contact Crime Stoppers. Information supplied by members of the public may help investigators establish the sequence of events and determine whether other people were involved.

The two accused have been charged, but a charge is not a conviction. Their cases will proceed through the courts, where the evidence and individual allegations will be considered. Important date clarification: The shooting allegedly occurred on 9 October. This report concerns the arrests and charges announced by police on 15 October 2026, not a shooting that happened today.
