A 46-year-old man has been taken to hospital in a critical but stable condition after being stabbed several times during an alleged attempted home invasion at Victoria Point, southeast of Brisbane, early Tuesday morning.

Queensland Police said emergency services were called to a property on Albatross Street shortly before 1:30am on August 25 after a group of armed people allegedly attempted to break into the residence. Initial investigations indicate that the resident confronted the group during the incident.

The man was allegedly stabbed several times before the group fled the property. Paramedics treated the injured resident at the scene before transporting him to Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane. Police said his condition was critical but stable.

The incident has prompted a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack. Detectives are working to establish who was involved, why the group targeted the property and whether the incident was specifically directed at the resident.
