Queensland Rail's attempt to halt industrial action during NRL Magic Round. Train strikes will go ahead across Brisbane this weekend after the Fair Work Commission dismissed Queensland Rail's last-minute bid to suspend industrial action amid ongoing wage negotiations with rail unions. The Rail, Tram and Bus Union (RTBU) has announced protected industrial action from midnight to 8pm on both Saturday and Sunday, coinciding with NRL Magic Round at Suncorp Stadium, where tens of thousands of rugby league fans are expected to attend eight matches. Queensland Rail said it respectfully disagreed with the ruling and warned that passengers would bear the impact of reduced services. While additional trains are expected to operate after matches, spectators travelling to the stadium are likely to face the greatest disruption. The industrial action comes as the Queensland government works to secure Brisbane's long-term hosting of the popular NRL event.
