Construction is underway on a major social housing project in Kwinana, where 26 new homes will be built to help address housing demand in the region. The development will include six townhouses and 20 apartments located within the Kwinana Town Centre.
The project is designed to accommodate a diverse range of residents, including families with children and older women who may be experiencing housing insecurity. The location was chosen for its proximity to shops, schools, health services, parks, recreation facilities, the library and public transport.
The homes will be operated by St Patrick's Community Support Centre, a not-for-profit organisation that assists people experiencing or at risk of homelessness. The development has received $6.72 million from the Western Australian Government and a further $3.79 million commitment from the Federal Government.
Roger Cook said the project forms part of broader efforts to increase the supply of affordable and social housing across the state. The development is being delivered in two stages, with Stage 1 expected to be completed in early 2027 and Stage 2 scheduled to commence during 2026.
Housing availability remains a major issue across Western Australia, and the Kwinana project is intended to provide long-term accommodation options for residents who need additional support. Community housing providers and governments have increasingly partnered on projects such as this to help expand housing supply and reduce homelessness.
