A major police investigation is underway after a 32-year-old woman was found dead at a property on Denham Street in the Rockhampton CBD, prompting Queensland Police to declare a crime scene. Officers were called to the address at about 1:15pm following a welfare check request.

When officers arrived, they located the woman deceased inside the property. Due to the circumstances surrounding the death, detectives are treating the matter as suspicious and have referred the investigation to the Queensland Police Homicide Investigation Unit.

A large section of Denham Street, near the intersection with Alma Street, was cordoned off as forensic officers examined the scene. Detectives and specialist investigators spent several hours gathering evidence and speaking with potential witnesses.

Police have not publicly identified the woman, and no arrests have been announced. Authorities said there is no ongoing threat to the wider community, but investigations remain in their early stages as detectives work to establish exactly what occurred.

Queensland Police are appealing to anyone who was in the area or who may have information, CCTV or dashcam footage relevant to the investigation to contact Crime Stoppers or the Queensland Police Service.

A post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the woman's cause of death, with investigators expected to continue forensic examinations and interviews in the coming days.
