A 53-year-old man has been charged with nine offences following an alleged series of dangerous driving incidents near Lismore in northern New South Wales.

Police said the investigation began at approximately 9:15 pm on Tuesday, 13 October 2026, after reports of a sedan travelling erratically behind an SUV on Ballina Road at Goonellabah.

According to police allegations, the sedan collided with the rear of the SUV before leaving the scene. A short time later, the same sedan allegedly struck a station wagon several times. The station wagon subsequently crashed into a power pole on the Bruxner Highway at South Lismore.

The occupants of the station wagon sustained minor injuries and the power pole was damaged. Police allege the sedan’s driver left without stopping after the collision.

Officers later attended a property on Numulgi Road at Woodlawn, where the man was allegedly attempting to break into a home. He was arrested and taken to Lismore Police Station for further investigation.

During a search of the sedan, officers allegedly located cannabis and a crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine. The substances were seized for investigation.

The man was charged with nine offences, including two counts of knowingly driving a vehicle in a manner that menaces another person, two counts of failing to provide particulars to another driver, and one count of failing to stop and assist after a collision causing injury. He also faces charges relating to entering enclosed land without lawful excuse, damaging property and possessing a prohibited drug on two counts.

Police have not alleged that the occupants of the vehicles suffered serious injuries; the reported injuries to the station wagon’s occupants were minor. The damage to the power pole was also included in the police account of the incident. The man was refused bail and is due to appear before Tweed Heads Local Court on Friday, 16 October 2026. The allegations have not been proven in court. The charges and the circumstances described remain subject to the legal process.
