and devotion to his children were honoured in heartfelt tributes and a moving haka. Beloved Charlie Peepe was remembered as a cheeky, charismatic and deeply loved member of the Mackay music community during an emotional funeral service at New Life Church. Born in Brisbane in 1981, Peepe was a self-taught musician who spent countless hours learning songs by ear and performing with local bands across Mackay and the Whitsundays. Friends and family described him as the life of every gathering, known for his velvet voice, infectious humour and ability to make everyone feel like an old friend. Tributes were delivered by his daughters, brother and former partner, highlighting his dedication as a father to five daughters and his joy at becoming a grandfather in 2025. His partner, Taylah Patterson, shared a poem titled My Soulmate, while mourners also performed a haka in his honour. Peepe died after sustaining critical injuries in a vehicle crash on Marian Eton Road near Mackay last month. His passing has prompted an outpouring of grief from musicians, friends and the broader North Queensland community.
