Police have arrested a 50-year-old man following an incident at Horseshoe Beach in Newcastle. According to police reports, officers were called after the man was allegedly found naked at the beach and had reportedly driven a vehicle onto the sand.

Police from the Transport Command North Central attended the area and intervened as the man attempted to leave. A roadside drug test allegedly returned positive results for cannabis and co-caine, with a secondary sample obtained for further analysis.

Officers then searched the vehicle and allegedly seized 21.56 grams of cannabis, 38 knives and an axe. Police subsequently arrested the man and took him to Newcastle Police Station.

He was charged with five offences, including wilful and obscene exposure in a public place, possession of a prohibited drug, custody of a knife in a public place, and two offences relating to possessing or using prohibited weapons without a permit.

The man was granted strict conditional bail and is scheduled to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Thursday.

The incident has attracted attention because of the unusual circumstances and the number of weapons allegedly discovered during the vehicle search. Police investigations and court proceedings will determine the circumstances surrounding the allegations.

As the matter is before the courts, the accused is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
