Queensland Police have charged a 23-year-old man following an alleged armed robbery at Carina in Brisbane, after a 69-year-old man was allegedly threatened with a knife and had his vehicle and mobile phone taken.

Police allege the incident occurred at approximately 1:30 PM on Saturday, 5 September 2026, at a laundromat on Creek Road, Carina. According to police, the alleged offender approached the 69-year-old man while armed with a knife and demanded his car keys and mobile phone.

Police further allege that the victim was assaulted during the incident before the man took his keys and left the area in the victim's grey BMW X5.

The 69-year-old victim was subsequently taken to hospital for treatment. Police reported that his injuries were non-life-threatening.

Following the alleged robbery, Queensland Police began an investigation to identify the person responsible and locate the stolen BMW. Investigators were able to track the vehicle to a service station on Ferry Road in Southport.

Approximately 45 minutes after the alleged robbery, police located and arrested a 23-year-old man from Birtinya at the Southport service station.

The man has since been charged with armed robbery and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

He was scheduled to appear before Southport Magistrates Court on Monday, 7 September 2026, as the matter moves through the Queensland justice system.

The case demonstrates how police investigations following an alleged vehicle theft can involve tracking the stolen vehicle and coordinating inquiries across different parts of southeast Queensland. The alleged robbery began in Carina, in Brisbane's eastern suburbs, while the vehicle was later located in Southport on the Gold Coast.
