Queensland Police have charged a 32-year-old man following an alleged sexual assault involving a woman in her 20s in Brookfield, western Brisbane.

Police allege the woman was walking along Brookfield Road near the Brookfield Road bridge at about 6:33am on 20 August when she was stopped and assaulted by an unknown man. Following an extensive investigation, detectives located a 32-year-old man from Raceview later that afternoon and took him into custody.

The man has been charged with six counts of rape, as well as one count each of stalking, assault with intent to commit rape, assault occasioning bodily harm and deprivation of liberty. He is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court today.

Police said specialist officers would remain deployed throughout Brookfield while local general-duties officers conduct increased patrols to support community safety.

Investigators also thanked members of the public who provided information and dashcam footage that assisted the investigation and identification of the alleged offender.

The victim is receiving support from family and professionals. Police have stressed that the investigation concerns one alleged incident and that they are not seeking another person in connection with the reported assault.

The charges are allegations only and have not been proven in court. The accused is entitled to the presumption of innocence.
