A 35-year-old man has been charged following an alleged machete threat at Wyong on the NSW Central Coast. Police were called shortly after midnight on Saturday, August 29, following reports that a man armed with a machete had threatened a 27-year-old man at a car park on London Drive.

About 20 minutes later, officers attempted to stop a vehicle travelling south along the Pacific Highway at Wyong. Police arrested a 35-year-old man and allege that a search of the vehicle located a large machete and a baton.

Police also allege that further checks found the man's driver's licence was suspended. A roadside breath test allegedly returned a positive result.

The man was taken to Wyong Police Station and charged with multiple offences. These include allegedly stalking or intimidating another person with the intention of causing fear of physical harm, carrying a visible knife in a public place and causing fear for another person's safety, failing to comply with a direction to stop or not move a vehicle, possessing an offensive implement in a public place, driving with a licence that had expired within the previous two years and driving with a mid-range prescribed concentration of alcohol.

The alleged incident has prompted renewed attention to public safety in the Wyong area, particularly where weapons are allegedly involved. Police action following information about the vehicle resulted in the man's arrest and the alleged recovery of weapons.

The accused was granted conditional bail. He is scheduled to appear before Wyong Local Court on Thursday, September 10, 2026. The allegations have not been proven in court, and the accused is entitled to the presumption of innocence.
