A 47-year-old man has been charged with murder following an investigation into the death of 31-year-old Megan Tangye in Port Macquarie. NSW Police said detectives arrested the man on Monday, August 24, after an investigation into Tangye’s death. He was arrested aboard a houseboat on the Hastings River and was subsequently taken to Port Macquarie Police Station, where he was charged with murder and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Tangye was found seriously injured at a property on Gore Street in Port Macquarie on December 27, 2025. Emergency services attended and she was taken to Port Macquarie Hospital, where she later died. A subsequent post-mortem examination led investigators to treat her death as suspicious.

Police established Strike Force Hazen to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death. Detectives from the State Crime Command and local police were involved in the investigation, which continued for several months before the recent arrest.

The accused man, identified in court reporting as Mark Andrew Harrison, was denied bail. No bail application was made during the initial court appearance. The matter has been adjourned, with the case scheduled to return to court on October 21.

Police have stressed that the investigation is ongoing. As the matter is now before the courts, the accused remains entitled to the presumption of innocence unless proven guilty.

The arrest represents a significant development in a case that has been under investigation since Tangye’s death late last year. Further court proceedings are expected to provide additional information as the prosecution case progresses.
