Nominations are now open for South Australia’s Little Sporting Legend 2026, a community competition that recognises young athletes who inspire others through their passion, commitment and positive attitude toward sport.

The annual competition celebrates children from across the state who excel not only through their sporting achievements but also by displaying teamwork, resilience and dedication both on and off the field. Parents, relatives, coaches, teachers and friends are encouraged to nominate deserving young sportspeople from any sporting discipline.

The competition showcases children involved in a wide range of sports, from Australian Rules football, soccer and netball to martial arts, swimming, athletics and many other community sports. Organisers say the initiative is designed to recognise young people whose enthusiasm and determination make them role models within their clubs and schools.

Among this year's featured nominees is Oliver "Olly" Ross, a nine-year-old from Roseworthy, who plays football, soccer and jiu-jitsu. His nomination highlights his tireless enthusiasm for sport, his commitment to training and his willingness to help teammates by acting as a water runner and assisting during practice sessions. His long-term dream is to one day play AFL at the highest level.

Another nominee is Dayton Partridge, a 12-year-old from Munno Para West. Despite living with Léri-Weill dyschondrosteosis, a rare form of dwarfism, Dayton has become an active participant in football and netball. She also helped establish her school's first girls' football team, demonstrating leadership and encouraging more young girls to become involved in sport.

Organisers say stories like these reflect the spirit of the competition, which focuses as much on determination, perseverance and community involvement as athletic ability. Many nominees overcome personal challenges while continuing to support teammates and encourage participation in local sport.

Following the nomination period, subscribers will be invited to vote for their favourite young sporting legend. Voting opens immediately and closes at 8:00 am on 8 July 2026, with one vote permitted per eligible subscriber. The winner will be announced after voting concludes.

The competition also shines a spotlight on grassroots sporting clubs across South Australia, recognising the important role volunteers, coaches and families play in helping children develop confidence, healthy lifestyles and lifelong friendships through sport.

Community sporting organisations are encouraging local residents to support the nominees and celebrate the achievements of young athletes who continue to inspire others through their commitment and positive attitude.
