A police pursuit through Perth’s southern suburbs ended in a serious crash on South Street in Leeming on Monday, 12 October, prompting an emergency response from police, firefighters and ambulance crews. The collision occurred shortly before 11 am near the intersection of South Street and Beasley Road. The incident caused extensive damage to vehicles and disrupted traffic along one of the major roads serving Perth’s southern suburbs.

St John Ambulance confirmed that a man was transported to Royal Perth Hospital under the highest priority. A man in his 40s and a woman in her 30s were also taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital. The full extent of their injuries had not been confirmed in the initial reporting.

Images from above showed the front of a white sedan almost completely destroyed. The force of the collision was so severe that the car’s engine was reportedly thrown approximately 50 metres from the vehicle, landing on the opposite side of the six-lane road.

A second vehicle, described as a black van, was also badly damaged. Its windscreen was smashed, and a metal road sign was lodged in its bonnet. Debris was scattered across the roadway, illustrating the severity of the impact.

Emergency crews attended the scene to assist the injured, manage the damaged vehicles and make the area safe. The scale of the wreckage required authorities to manage traffic around the affected section of South Street while the incident was dealt with.

The crash was reported in connection with a police pursuit through Perth’s southern suburbs. One person was taken into custody following the incident. Authorities had not publicly detailed all the circumstances leading up to the collision in the initial report.

The investigation will need to establish how the pursuit developed, what happened immediately before the crash and the sequence of events involving the vehicles. Until further information is released by police, it would be premature to draw conclusions about responsibility for the collision.

The crash also caused significant traffic disruption. South Street westbound was closed between Vahland Avenue and Beasley Road, with motorists warned of heavy traffic and delays in the surrounding area. South Street is an important route through Perth’s southern suburbs, connecting residential areas and commercial districts. A major crash on a road of this size can affect commuters and other road users well beyond the immediate collision site.

Police and emergency services are continuing their response, and further details may emerge as investigators establish the full circumstances of the incident. The priority remains assisting those injured, securing the crash scene and determining what led to the serious collision.
