Queensland Maroons will rely on captain Tamika Upton to inspire a series-levelling victory against the New South Wales Blues in Game II of the Women's State of Origin. Queensland enters the match after a narrow 11–6 defeat in Newcastle, where errors and ill-discipline proved costly. Another loss would hand New South Wales an unbeatable 2–0 lead in the three-match series. Upton has assumed the captaincy following the retirement of Queensland legend Ali Brigginshaw and has quickly impressed coaches with her leadership. Assistant coach Clay Harris described her as “unbelievable,” highlighting the influence she has had on both experienced players and newcomers. Teammate Emma Manzelmann said Upton takes a personal interest in helping each player perform at their best and has become a strong source of motivation within the squad. The decisive clash will be played at Suncorp Stadium, also known as Lang Park, with kick-off scheduled for 7:45pm AEST on Thursday night.
