Piper Mortimer from Ramsay, near Toowoomba, has been selected to captain Queensland Mixed Junior Polocrosse Team at the national championships in Darwin from 22 to 28 June 2026. Piper has been playing polocrosse for five years and has quickly established herself as one of Queensland’s leading junior competitors. In 2024, she was named Best Junior Player at the Queensland Junior Polocrosse Awards and represented a Queensland Development team against players from New Zealand and the United States.
The 2026 season marks Piper’s final year in the junior ranks before she moves into the Under-21 division. The national campaign will involve extensive preparation, including six lead-up carnivals from Inverell to Wandoan. More than 180 Queensland team members, including coaches, managers and support staff, are expected to travel to Darwin.
Piper and her family will transport three horses to compete. Piper’s mother, Leah Mortimer, is seeking sponsorship to help cover travel and competition costs. In return, sponsors can receive business promotion through signage on vehicles and equipment, logo embroidery on horse rugs and tack, and community exposure.
Piper’s selection as state captain highlights both her sporting achievements and the dedication required to compete at the highest level of junior polocrosse in Australia.
