cultural and community programs across the region. The Sunshine Coast Council is celebrating the dedication of more than 4,000 volunteers during National Volunteer Week, held from 18 to 24 May, acknowledging the people who help create inclusive and connected communities across the region. Volunteers contribute to a wide range of council-supported initiatives, including environmental conservation, arts and heritage, literacy and learning programs, and community events. One long-serving volunteer, Debra, has spent more than 18 years at the Maroochy Regional Bushland Botanic Garden, where she propagates and cares for native plants that are later established throughout the gardens. Rosanna Natoli praised volunteers for the compassion, skills and strong sense of community they bring to their roles, saying their efforts help create welcoming environments where residents feel supported and included. The recognition highlights the important role volunteers play in enriching daily life on the Sunshine Coast and strengthening social connections throughout the region.
