A 16-year-old girl has been arrested and charged following alleged assaults involving a security guard and a police officer in Adelaide CBD, South Australia, on Tuesday night, 22 September 2026.

South Australia Police said officers were called to Rundle Mall at about 8:10pm after receiving reports that a teenage girl had allegedly punched a security guard. The security guard sustained minor injuries during the incident. Police patrols attended the area and located the girl a short time later on King William Street.

Police allege that while officers were speaking with the teenager, she refused to provide her name and then allegedly slapped a police officer in the face. Officers subsequently attempted to arrest her, but police allege she resisted the arrest.

During the arrest, two police officers sustained minor injuries, according to SAPOL. Police then searched the teenager and allegedly located scissors in her possession.

The teenager, identified by police as a 16-year-old girl from Campbelltown, was arrested and charged with several offences. The charges include aggravated assault, assaulting a prescribed emergency worker, causing harm by resisting arrest, and carrying an offensive weapon.

Police said the girl was subsequently granted bail. She is scheduled to appear in the Adelaide Youth Court on 12 November 2026.

The incident occurred in one of Adelaide's busiest public areas, with Rundle Mall and King William Street forming part of the city's central commercial and pedestrian precinct. Police responded after the initial report and located the teenager nearby.

The case will now proceed through the youth justice system. The allegations have not been determined by a court, and the accused is entitled to the presumption of innocence unless the charges are proven.
