A young driver has died following a head-on collision involving two vehicles on Picton Road near Wilton in south-west Sydney on Saturday morning.

Emergency services were called to the road at approximately 6:30 am on 10 October after reports of a serious crash. Officers from Camden Police Area Command attended and found that the collision had left both drivers trapped in their vehicles.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated one driver, believed to be in his late teens, at the scene. Despite their efforts, he died at the location. Police said his identity had not yet been formally confirmed when their initial statement was released.

The second driver, a 26-year-old man, was freed from his vehicle by Fire and Rescue NSW personnel. He sustained head and leg injuries and received treatment from paramedics before being transported to Liverpool Hospital. His condition was reported as serious but stable.

The collision prompted an emergency response involving police, ambulance crews and firefighters. The circumstances that led to the two vehicles colliding remain under investigation.

Police have not yet established the cause of the crash. Investigators will examine the available evidence to determine how the collision occurred, and a report will be prepared for the information of the NSW Coroner.

Authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or travelled along Picton Road around the time of the incident to contact investigators. CCTV footage, mobile-phone recordings and dashcam video could help establish the vehicles’ movements before impact and clarify the circumstances surrounding the collision.

Traffic diversions were reported following the crash. Motorists were advised to check current traffic information before travelling through the affected area and to follow directions from emergency services.

The fatal collision underscores the serious consequences of crashes on regional and semi-rural roads. However, investigators have not confirmed whether speed, driver behaviour, road conditions or any other factor contributed to this incident. It would be premature to attribute responsibility before the investigation is complete.
