Townsville man Aaron Lee Martin was sentenced in the Townsville Magistrates Court after pleading guilty to a series of vehicle theft offences committed across North Queensland in 2025. The spree included the theft of a university student’s Mitsubishi Triton from the James Cook University campus, attempted thefts on Bowen farming properties and the stealing of multiple vehicles used during the offences. Magistrate Jessica Keir criticised Martin’s extensive criminal history, describing the conduct as part of ongoing community frustration over vehicle crime in North Queensland. Martin received a 15-month prison sentence with immediate parole eligibility after time already served in custody.
