Queensland’s new-look State of Origin side will feature rising playmaker Sam Walker in the No.7 jersey after coach Billy Slater selected him to guide the Maroons in the 2026 series opener. Walker steps into a role made famous by Queensland greats and has been entrusted with leading the side’s attack despite his relative inexperience at Origin level. The squad announcement also included the return of Dolphins prop Thomas Flegler as Queensland reshapes its lineup for the interstate battle.
