A 63-year-old woman has been charged following a fatal crash on the Olympic Highway near Gerogery, approximately 30 kilometres north of Albury. The collision occurred on August 5 at the Five Mates Crossing overpass.

Emergency services attended after reports of a two-car crash. A 65-year-old male driver was treated at the scene but died from his injuries. The woman driving the second vehicle was seriously injured and transported to Albury Base Hospital.

Following an investigation involving the NSW Police Crash Investigation Unit and Murray River Police District, officers allege the woman crossed the centre line before the collision.

Police have charged her with dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving occasioning death and failing to keep left of a dividing line. Her NSW driving privileges have been suspended.

She is scheduled to appear at Albury Local Court on October 14, 2026.

The crash occurred at the Five Mates Crossing, an overpass built as a memorial following a 2001 railway tragedy in which five local teenagers were killed.

Police investigations into the circumstances of the fatal collision have continued, with authorities assessing evidence surrounding the vehicles and road conditions. The charges are allegations, and the accused woman will have the matter determined through the court process.
