A 47-year-old woman has been charged with two counts of attempted murder following an alleged domestic violence incident involving two boys at a home in Mitchelton, in Brisbane's north-west.

Queensland Police said the incident occurred on September 24, when the woman allegedly exposed two boys, aged 12 and 15, to a noxious substance inside a residence. The boys were not injured and police said they are now safe and well. (abc.net.au)

Police became aware of the incident after a 70-year-old man attending the property noticed the presence of the substance. The matter was subsequently reported to police, who began an investigation into what had allegedly occurred at the Mitchelton home.

The woman was taken to hospital for medical treatment following the incident. She remained in hospital while police continued their investigation and was discharged on Thursday, October 8.

Following her discharge, police arrested the woman and charged her with two counts of attempted murder. The charges have been classified as domestic violence offences against children. (abc.net.au)

The woman was expected to appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court later on Thursday.

Police have not publicly identified the specific substance allegedly involved. Authorities have also not released further details about the circumstances that led to the alleged incident, including the relationship between the woman and the two boys.

The fact that both children were not physically injured is significant, although police have treated the allegations as extremely serious because of the nature of the charges.

Domestic violence offences involving children can involve complex investigations, particularly where police need to establish what happened inside a private residence and determine how an alleged substance was used.

Investigators will now present the allegations through the court process. The woman is presumed innocent unless and until the allegations are proven in court.

Police have also confirmed that the boys are safe and well following the incident.

The case comes amid continuing efforts by Queensland authorities to respond to domestic and family violence. Police investigations in such cases can involve specialist officers, particularly when children are allegedly involved.

The woman's appearance in Brisbane Magistrates Court will be an important next step in the case. The court will consider the charges and determine how the matter proceeds.
