A 71-year-old woman has died after being struck by a police car at the intersection of Sheridan Street and Lily Street in Cairns, Queensland. The incident occurred around 7am while she was walking, and she suffered critical injuries at the scene. She was given first aid by the officer involved before being taken to Cairns Hospital, where she later died. The Forensic Crash Unit, Ethical Standards Command, and the Crime and Corruption Commission are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision. Police have closed nearby roads and are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage. The police union has also confirmed it is supporting the officers involved.
