Northern Territory Police have arrested and charged a 19-year-old man following a series of alleged assaults at the Casuarina Bus Exchange in Darwin on Friday night, 4 September 2026.

Police said emergency services received reports at approximately 9:55 PM that a man was allegedly assaulting multiple people at the bus exchange. Officers from Casuarina General Duties attended the area and began investigating the reported incidents.

According to police allegations, the man approached a 21-year-old man who was sitting on a bench at the bus exchange. Police allege that he repeatedly punched and kicked the man to the head, causing him to fall to the ground.

The alleged offender then moved towards another man, aged 19, who was also seated at the bus exchange. Police allege that the second man was punched and kicked in the face before being dragged to the ground, where the alleged assault continued.

Two security guards reportedly intervened in an attempt to stop the situation. Police allege that both security guards were subsequently struck in the face during the incident.

Following the alleged assaults, police said the man left the bus exchange and walked along Trower Road towards Moil. He then entered Parer Drive, where police allege he threw rocks at a parked vehicle.

The vehicle was allegedly damaged during the incident, including damage to its passenger-side doors and windows.

Police officers located and arrested the 19-year-old a short time later. He has since been charged with multiple offences arising from the investigation.

The charges include aggravated assault, damage to property, being armed with an offensive weapon and assaulting a worker. The allegations remain before the court and have not been proven.

Two of the alleged victims were taken to Royal Darwin Hospital for medical assessment and treatment. According to police reporting, they were later discharged from hospital.

Police said the alleged offender and the people involved in the reported assaults were not known to each other.

The incident has prompted attention to safety at public transport facilities and the risks faced by security and other workers responding to disturbances. Police have continued to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and are seeking information from anyone who may have witnessed what occurred.

The accused man has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in Darwin Local Court on Monday, 7 September 2026.
