Power Community Limited has expanded the Santos Aboriginal Power Cup into the Northern Territory for the first time, with nine schools and around 200 First Nations students joining the program this year. The initiative combines football, education, mentoring, leadership activities, and cultural learning to strengthen school engagement and create opportunities for young people across the Territory. Community leaders are guiding the rollout to ensure the program reflects the needs of local schools and communities. Braedon Talbot said the focus is on creating lasting outcomes for students, schools, and future community leaders rather than simply increasing participation numbers. The program rewards students who maintain school attendance and academic progress by giving them access to Cup events and year-round activities. Former AFL players including Shaun Burgoyne and Steven Motlop are supporting the initiative, helping inspire students through mentoring and shared experiences. The Northern Territory expansion also supports the AFL’s long-term goals to grow First Nations participation through community-led programs while strengthening connections between sport, culture, and education. The Santos Aboriginal Power Cup is expanding to the Northern Territory for the first time, bringing Port Adelaide Football Club’s long-running community program to more First Nations students and creating new education and sporting opportunities.
