A charity home in Armstrong Creek has helped deliver a $1 million donation to Cottage by the Sea, supporting the Queenscliff-based organisation's work with children and young people.
The home was built by Boutique Homes and sold by its parent company, ABN Group, as part of a fundraising initiative supporting Cottage by the Sea. It was the second charity property sold by the group to raise money for the organisation.
The $1 million donation was presented to Cottage by the Sea chief executive Adam Wake at the charity's new Riptide facility. The new facility is expected to significantly increase the organisation's ability to support children, with capacity to reach more than 700 additional children each year.
The donation provides additional funding for programs designed to give children opportunities to build confidence and reduce anxiety. Cottage by the Sea works with children and young people through programs intended to provide positive experiences and opportunities that may not otherwise be available to them.
Wake said the new facility was designed to give children opportunities to experience something different and develop a greater sense of possibility. The organisation's work focuses on creating experiences that can have a lasting impact on children who participate.
The funding comes from a partnership between the charity and businesses involved in the construction and sale of the Armstrong Creek property. Boutique Homes and ABN Group have supported Cottage by the Sea through the charity-home initiative, with the latest property providing another substantial contribution.
For Cottage by the Sea, the additional funding is expected to help extend the reach of its programs. The organisation says the money will help more children and young people take part in programs that can support their wellbeing and confidence.
The Riptide facility represents an important part of that expansion. With the ability to accommodate more children, the facility provides the organisation with greater capacity to deliver its programs and reach families who may benefit from its services.
The donation also demonstrates how property development and home sales can be connected with community fundraising. The charity-home model allows a completed residential property to generate funding for a local organisation while providing a new homeowner with a property.
For the new Armstrong Creek homeowner, the purchase therefore comes with an additional community impact, with the sale contributing directly to a major donation for children.
Boutique Homes managing director Adrian Hooper said the company was proud to continue its support of Cottage by the Sea. The organisation's partnership with the charity has created a way for the business and property buyers to contribute to programs supporting children and young people.
The donation adds significant funding to Cottage by the Sea's work at a time when its new Riptide facility is expanding the number of children it can support. The organisation says the money will help create more opportunities for children who may have limited access to positive experiences.
The initiative also highlights the role that corporate partnerships can play in supporting community organisations. Contributions from businesses and donors provide charities with resources that can be directed towards programs and facilities.
For children taking part in Cottage by the Sea programs, the additional funding is expected to provide more opportunities to participate and benefit from the organisation's work.
The $1 million contribution from the Armstrong Creek charity home sale therefore connects a local property development with a broader community outcome, helping Cottage by the Sea expand its reach and support more children through its programs.
