Brisbane Airport has secured a major new retail development with Costco confirming a $145 million investment to build its first Brisbane warehouse. The proposed store will be located in a new precinct directly opposite Brisbane International Airport and is expected to become a major addition to the area.

The development will occupy a 6.7-hectare site within a larger 51-hectare precinct. Plans include a 15,000-square-metre Costco warehouse, a 34-bowser fuel station, approximately 870 parking spaces and a food court. Site preparation has already started, marking the beginning of a significant transformation of the airport precinct.

The Brisbane store is expected to open in late 2029 and will employ approximately 250 people, providing new jobs across retail, food services, customer service and other operations.

Costco currently operates several Queensland locations, but the Brisbane Airport project will be the company’s first store in Brisbane. The development is being promoted as an important step in creating a larger mixed-use precinct around the airport.

Brisbane Airport management has described the Costco investment as a major attraction for the new precinct and an indication of confidence in Brisbane’s continued growth. The location is also expected to benefit from its proximity to the international terminal and major transport connections.

The warehouse is planned to offer a broad range of products, including groceries, electronics, clothing and health-related services. A large parking facility and fuel station will also form part of the development.

The project is expected to bring additional activity to the Brisbane Airport area as construction progresses over the coming years. Once completed, the Costco store could become a major shopping destination for Brisbane residents as well as people travelling through the airport precinct.

The development comes at a time when Brisbane continues to experience population growth and major investment in infrastructure and commercial projects. The airport precinct is undergoing significant expansion, with new retail and mixed-use developments planned alongside existing aviation facilities.

Costco’s investment therefore represents more than the arrival of a new retailer. It forms part of a broader development strategy aimed at creating a larger commercial destination near Brisbane Airport. Construction and site preparation are expected to continue ahead of the planned late-2029 opening.
