British actress Emaa Hussen has been charged over an alleged attempt to import hundreds of kilograms of methamphetamine into Australia in a drug trafficking case that authorities say involved narcotics worth nearly $300 million.

The 34-year-old appeared before a Sydney court after being arrested during a major joint investigation involving the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and the Australian Border Force (ABF).

Police allege the operation involved approximately 320 kilograms of methamphetamine hidden inside shipments of charcoal imported from Ghana in West Africa. Investigators claim the drugs had an estimated street value of $296 million and could have resulted in around 3.2 million street-level drug deals if distributed throughout Australia.

The investigation began in April when Australian Border Force officers identified anomalies in two shipping containers arriving at Port Botany. The containers were declared as carrying bags of charcoal, but further examination allegedly revealed a white crystalline substance concealed within the shipment.

Laboratory testing later confirmed the substance was methamphetamine. Authorities subsequently removed the drugs from the containers before allowing the shipment to continue under controlled conditions as part of the ongoing investigation.

Police allege the containers were delivered to a storage facility in **Sydney>'s western suburbs, where investigators monitored activity connected to the shipment. According to court documents and police allegations, Hussen allegedly attended the storage facility and supervised the unloading of the container.

Authorities claim several bags were later loaded into a vehicle and transported to a residence in Blacktown, where police arrested Hussen. Officers also seized electronic devices and written materials during searches conducted as part of the operation.

As investigations continued, police arrested a 30-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man from Adelaide. The pair have been charged with allegedly using false identities to rent storage facilities connected to the shipment.

AFP Acting Detective Superintendent Trevor Robinson said the seizure prevented a substantial quantity of methamphetamine from entering the Australian market. Officials noted that organised crime groups frequently use sophisticated concealment methods to disguise illegal drugs within legitimate cargo shipments.

Australian Border Force Superintendent Jared Leighton praised officers involved in the operation, saying criminal syndicates continually develop new methods to hide illicit substances but border authorities remain focused on detecting and disrupting importation attempts.

Hussen is known for appearing in a spin-off of the long-running British television series East Enders and has also appeared in the film Redemption, starring Jason Statham.

The actress remains in custody and is scheduled to reappear in court in August. The allegations have not been proven, and the matter remains before the courts.
