Queensland Police have launched an investigation following a spectacular crash in Rocklea, Brisbane, where a hatchback became airborne before crashing into the side of a Brisbane City Council bus. The collision occurred at the intersection of Beaudesert Road and Granard Road at approximately 6:30pm on Wednesday, drawing a large response from police, paramedics and fire crews.

According to emergency services, the small hatchback struck the side of the bus with such force that it became wedged inside the vehicle. Images from the scene showed the front section of the car embedded in the bus, highlighting the severity of the impact. The unusual crash temporarily disrupted traffic through one of Brisbane's busiest transport corridors while emergency responders secured the area and cleared the wreckage.

The female driver of the hatchback was treated by Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics before being transported to hospital. Authorities said she was suffering from shock, but no life-threatening injuries were immediately reported. Firefighters assisted in making the scene safe, while police began examining the circumstances that led to the collision.

The driver of the Brisbane City Council bus escaped the incident without injury. A Brisbane City Council spokesperson confirmed that the bus was not carrying any passengers at the time of the crash, significantly reducing the potential for serious injuries. Officials said the bus driver did not require medical treatment.

Investigators are working to determine exactly how the hatchback became airborne before striking the bus. Police examined the crash scene overnight and are expected to review physical evidence and speak with witnesses as part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities have not yet announced whether speed, road conditions or any other contributing factors played a role in the incident.

Motorists experienced delays while emergency crews removed the damaged vehicles and reopened the intersection. Police have appealed to anyone who witnessed the crash or who may have dashcam footage from the area around the time of the collision to contact investigators to assist with inquiries.

Although the crash caused significant damage to both vehicles, authorities said the outcome could have been far worse had the bus been carrying passengers. The investigation remains ongoing as police work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
