Fire ravages bushland and threatens homes in Gladstone - Gladstone, QLD

At the height of the emergency, residents in nearby areas were advised to prepare for the possibility of evacuation. Smoke also affected communities including Kirkwood, Glen Eden and Telina. Queensland authorities urged residents affected by thick smoke to remain indoors, close windows and doors and monitor emergency warnings.
Police subsequently arrested a man who was found near the source of several of the fires. Initial investigations indicated that the fires may have been deliberately lit. The man was later released and, according to the latest report, no charges had been filed at that stage. Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fires.
The investigation is also examining whether there could be a connection with other suspicious grassfires in the broader region. Authorities have asked members of the public with relevant information to contact police.
The incident has also had an ongoing impact on local recreation. Gladstone Regional Council has temporarily closed the Round Gladstone Trail following recent fire activity. The council says the trail will remain closed while inspections and any necessary remediation work are completed.
No injuries were reported in connection with the major winery fire, although the scale of the damage has affected local landholders and tourism infrastructure. Gecko Valley Winery remains operational despite the loss of significant areas of its property.
