Former reality television star and fitness entrepreneur Sam Wood has been remanded in custody after appearing in court on Monday over domestic violence charges arising from an alleged incident in Noosa, Queensland. The 46-year-old Melbourne-based fitness influencer was arrested after Queensland Police responded to a report of alleged domestic violence at a property on Hastings Street on Saturday night.

Police said officers attended the Noosa address at approximately 9pm on Saturday, 3 October, following reports of an alleged domestic violence incident. Wood was subsequently arrested and charged with assault occasioning bodily harm in a domestic violence context and strangulation in a domestic setting.

Wood appeared before the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Monday, 5 October, by video link from a police watch house. He did not make a bail application during the hearing and was remanded in custody. His lawyer, Mathew Cuskelly, told the court that a bail application would be made when Wood returns to court on Thursday. The lawyer also said the charges would be defended.

Details of the alleged incident, including the identity and condition of any alleged victim, have not been publicly disclosed by police. Authorities have not released information suggesting that the allegations have been proven, and the matter remains before the court.

Wood became nationally known after appearing as the leading man on the 2015 season of The Bachelor Australia. Following his television career, he established a successful fitness and nutrition business and became a prominent figure in Australia's online fitness industry. His company, 28 by Sam Wood, developed home-based fitness programs and built a large following.

Following news of the charges, the business announced that Wood had been placed on indefinite leave while the legal proceedings continue. The company said it has a zero-tolerance position towards domestic violence and that the organisation's operations would continue while Wood is away from his duties.

Wood and his wife, Snezana, also released a joint statement through social media on Monday. The statement said the family was going through a difficult period and was cooperating with authorities.

Wood's legal proceedings are now expected to continue later this week. His next court appearance is scheduled for Thursday, when his lawyer is expected to seek bail.

The case has attracted significant public attention because of Wood's high profile in Australian television and the fitness industry. However, the allegations remain allegations at this stage, and the court process will determine how the matter proceeds.

Queensland authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged domestic violence incident. Further information may become available as the case returns to court and legal proceedings continue.
