Guevara was taken to Gympie Hospital, where doctors found multiple injuries, including hairline fractures, a broken nose and a crushed eye socket that required facial plates. His family said he was in a serious condition following the incident, including a period when his breathing reportedly stopped.
He has since returned home but may require further medical treatment.
Police confirmed the vehicle involved had been reported stolen. Investigators say the same van was later allegedly seen swerving in front of a 15-year-old cyclist. The cyclist was not injured.
Detectives are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged attack and are appealing for information from members of the public.
Police are particularly seeking dashcam footage, CCTV recordings or other information that could help identify the driver and establish the vehicle's movements before and after the incident.
The investigation remains ongoing, and no allegations have been proven in court.
