A man and two teenagers have been charged after an allegedly stolen vehicle crashed into a light pole at Wolli Creek in Sydney’s south, prompting a major police response early Monday morning. The incident is one of several crime-related investigations being reported across Australian cities on 5 October 2026. According to NSW Police, officers from St George Police Area Command and Traffic and Highway Patrol Command began investigating after reports of a van travelling along King Georges Road in Beverly Hills late Sunday night. Police were told that occupants of the vehicle were allegedly wearing face coverings.
Investigators established that the vehicle had allegedly been stolen from Ridge Street in North Sydney on Friday, October 2. Shortly after midnight on Monday, police allegedly spotted the vehicle travelling north on the Princes Highway near Arncliffe. Officers followed the vehicle as the situation developed, and it later crashed into a light pole on Brodie Sparks Drive at Wolli Creek. After the crash, several people allegedly attempted to flee from the vehicle and escape into surrounding streets.
Police quickly established a perimeter and brought in additional resources, including Pol Air and the Dog Squad. A 17-year-old girl was arrested at the scene and was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for injuries before being taken to hospital in a stable condition under police guard. Officers searching the vehicle and surrounding area allegedly located latex gloves and a large hunting knife, which were seized as part of the investigation. The vehicle itself was also seized for forensic examination.
Further arrests followed in nearby streets. Police arrested five males, including an 18-year-old man, two 16-year-old boys and two 15-year-old boys. The arrested group was taken to Kogarah Police Station for questioning and further investigation. The adult man was granted conditional bail and is due to appear at Sutherland Local Court on October 20, 2026. The remaining teenagers were dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.
Police are continuing their investigation into how the vehicle was allegedly stolen and what the occupants were allegedly intending to do before the crash. The forensic examination of the vehicle and items seized during the arrests is expected to form part of the ongoing investigation.
