A 37-year-old man has been charged following a major police investigation into alleged drug trafficking across Melbourne’s Kingston and Bayside areas, after detectives seized drugs, weapons, cash and equipment allegedly used to produce counterfeit identification documents during a search in Chelsea.

Victoria Police said detectives from the Caulfield Divisional Response Unit executed a search warrant at a residence on Chelsea Road, Chelsea, at approximately 7am on Monday, 5 October 2026. A 37-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman were arrested at the property without incident. The investigation was focused on suspected drug trafficking activity in the Kingston and Bayside areas.

During the search, investigators allegedly discovered and seized a range of substances and other items. Police listed methylamphetamine, cannabis, steroids, 1,4-Butanediol, ecstasy tablets and prescription medications among the substances seized. Investigators also allegedly located cash and items they say were connected with suspected criminal activity.

Police also seized several weapons during the operation, including a slingshot and a sword. The search uncovered what investigators described as fake driver's licences and equipment allegedly capable of being used to manufacture counterfeit identification documents. Police are examining the items as part of the broader investigation into suspected drug trafficking and associated offences.

The Chelsea man has been charged with 20 offences. The allegations include trafficking a commercial quantity of methylamphetamine, trafficking methylamphetamine, possessing prohibited weapons, possessing various drugs and medicines, possessing 1,4-Butanediol, making a false document and dealing with property suspected of being the proceeds of crime.

Police also allege the man possessed ecstasy, ketamine, cannabis and other substances discovered during the search. The range of charges reflects the different categories of items investigators say were located during the warrant.

A 34-year-old woman from Dandenong North was also arrested during the operation. Police released her pending further enquiries, meaning investigators have not announced charges against her at this stage. The investigation remains ongoing and police may make further inquiries as forensic examinations and investigations into the seized material continue.

The accused man was held overnight and is scheduled to appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 6 October 2026. His charges are allegations and have not been proven in court. He remains entitled to the presumption of innocence while the matter progresses through the justice system.

The seizure of suspected drugs alongside alleged counterfeit-document equipment has given investigators several areas to examine. Police will likely investigate whether the substances were intended for personal use or alleged commercial distribution and whether the counterfeit documents were connected to wider criminal activity.

Authorities continue to encourage members of the public to report information about suspected drug trafficking and organised criminal activity. Information supplied by the community can assist police in identifying properties, vehicles and people potentially connected to ongoing investigations.
