Police say Port Phillip Crime Investigation Unit detectives arrested a man on Monday following a prolonged investigation into a series of alleged violent assaults and thefts across the Port Phillip area during July and August. He has since been charged with 16 offences.

The investigation focused on several alleged incidents across Melbourne’s inner-south suburbs. Detectives worked to identify a person allegedly connected with the incidents before making the arrest.

The charges relate to alleged offending and remain matters for the courts. Being charged does not establish guilt, and the accused is entitled to the presumption of innocence.

The case demonstrates the work of local detectives investigating multiple alleged offences that may be connected. Police continue to assess evidence gathered during the investigation as the matter progresses through the justice system.
