Motocross racing is set to return to the Millicent Show in November, with the Mount Gambier Junior Motorcycle Club joining forces with the Millicent Show Society to bring motorcycle action back to the annual event.

The racing program, which has been absent from the Millicent Show for five years, will return in a new Arenacross format in 2026. The competition is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, November 6 and 7, giving motorcycle enthusiasts and spectators two days of racing action.

The motocross component was previously a major attraction at the Millicent Show for almost three decades. According to the event organisers, competitions regularly attracted hundreds of riders, including competitors travelling from locations as far away as Warrnambool. The return of motorcycle racing is therefore expected to add another major attraction to this year's show.

The event was placed on hold after the 2021 competition because of challenges involving track requirements and insurance issues. These factors prevented the motorcycles from returning to the show in the following years.

The 2026 agreement between the Millicent Show Society and the Mount Gambier Junior Motorcycle Club represents an important step towards bringing the popular activity back. Millicent Show Society president Brett Keatley said the organisation was pleased to be working with the Mount Gambier club to deliver the event.

For the Mount Gambier Junior Motorcycle Club, the return provides an opportunity to showcase local motorcycle talent and help bring competitive racing back to a major regional community event. Arenacross-style racing also provides a different format from traditional outdoor motocross, with competitors racing on a specially prepared track designed for close and exciting competition.

The event is expected to attract riders and spectators from across the Limestone Coast and surrounding regions. For local businesses and the broader community, large sporting events can also contribute to visitor activity by bringing competitors, families and supporters into the area.

The Millicent Show has traditionally provided a platform for agriculture, community activities, entertainment and sporting competitions. The return of motorcycle racing adds another component to the program and restores an attraction that had become a familiar part of the event over many years.
