The Hunter region is set to benefit from major investments announced in the 2026–27 New South Wales Budget, with funding directed towards urban renewal, healthcare services and road infrastructure.
A key component of the package is continued support for the transformation of the Broadmeadow precinct. The redevelopment aims to create new housing, public spaces, transport connections and economic opportunities in one of the region’s most significant urban renewal projects.
Healthcare infrastructure also features prominently in the budget, with funding allocated to projects involving the John Hunter Hospital and other facilities across the Hunter. The investments are intended to improve healthcare capacity and meet growing demand from the region's expanding population.
Road and transport upgrades form another major part of the spending plan. Funding has been directed towards improving key transport corridors and addressing congestion issues affecting residents, businesses and freight operators throughout the Hunter.
State government representatives said the investments are designed to support long-term economic growth while improving essential services and community infrastructure.
Business groups and local leaders have welcomed the commitments, noting that infrastructure projects can create jobs, stimulate economic activity and improve quality of life for residents.
The Broadmeadow redevelopment is regarded as one of the largest urban transformation projects planned for regional New South Wales. Future development is expected to include housing, commercial opportunities, sporting facilities and improved public transport links.
The budget measures reflect ongoing efforts to accommodate population growth in the Hunter while ensuring infrastructure keeps pace with community needs.
