In relation to an earlier incident on 15 September, the officer was also charged with offences including possessing a firearm while unlicensed, possessing ammunition without a permit or licence, possessing two prohibited weapons and possessing two items of body armour.
The officer has been granted bail and is due to appear in Darwin Local Court on 22 September 2026. Police said the officer has also been suspended with pay while the matters remain under investigation.
The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court. The accused is entitled to the presumption of innocence, and the court process will determine the outcome of the matters.
