New South Wales Police are continuing to search for a driver following the death of a 73-year-old man in a suspected hit-and-run incident in Bega on the state's South Coast.

Police said Eden man Trevor Fleet was struck by a vehicle on Newtown Road near the Princes Highway at Bega at about 12:16pm on August 31. Investigators believe Mr Fleet and a woman had stopped on the side of the road and were involved in a face-to-face argument before the woman returned to her vehicle.

Police allege the woman then reversed the vehicle into Mr Fleet. He fell to the ground and suffered serious injuries before dying in hospital the following day.

Almost four weeks after the incident, investigators have not located the driver. Police established Strike Force Dalore to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death and are appealing to members of the public for information.

Detectives believe the incident followed an unplanned meeting between Mr Fleet and the woman. Police are investigating witness accounts, CCTV footage and information submitted through Crime Stoppers as they attempt to identify the vehicle and driver.

Investigators are looking for a woman believed to be in her 30s or 40s. Police have released a description of the person and the vehicle they believe was involved as part of their appeal for information.

The vehicle is described as a large silver SUV, believed to be a Holden, with NSW black-and-white number plates and a bull bar. Police believe other motorists may have witnessed the incident while travelling through the area.

Investigators are particularly interested in anyone who was driving along Newtown Road or nearby sections of the Princes Highway around the time of the incident. Dashcam footage or other recordings could potentially assist police in establishing what happened.

Police have also appealed directly to the woman they believe was driving the vehicle, asking her to come forward and provide her account of the incident.

The investigation remains ongoing, and police have not located the driver at the time of the latest appeal. The allegations remain matters for investigation and have not been tested in court.

The death has affected Mr Fleet's family and local community. Police said he was a husband, parent, family member and friend to many people.
