Extraordinary CCTV footage has captured the moment several patrons at Boatrowers Hotel bravely fought back against an armed robber during a terrifying attempted hold-up. Matthew Bourke entered the pub on a Saturday night in 2025, brandishing what appeared to be a handgun but was later identified as a gel blaster. After jumping behind the bar and stealing cash from the till, Bourke was confronted by customers, one of whom threw bar stools to stop him. During the struggle, one patron was stabbed in the shoulder but continued resisting. Bourke then attempted to flee while carrying the stolen money and confronted a woman recording the incident before being subdued. The footage has drawn praise for the courage of those involved and highlighted the risks faced by bystanders during violent crimes.
