A 42-year-old man has died following a quad bike crash south of Wodonga, marking the second fatal quad bike incident reported in the Victoria-New South Wales border region within just a few days. The latest crash occurred on Monday evening on Huon Creek Road, south of Wodonga in Victoria.

Emergency services responded after the man crashed his quad bike shortly after 8pm. He suffered critical injuries and was taken to hospital, where he later died. Police are preparing a report for the coroner as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The incident comes shortly after another fatal quad bike accident in southern New South Wales. On Sunday afternoon, a man in his 20s died at the Osborne Recreation Ground, about 70 kilometres west of Wagga Wagga. Police said the man was being towed by a quad bike when he struck a goalpost at the football ground.

Emergency services were called to the Osborne Yerong Creek Road reserve shortly after 2:30pm. The man suffered serious injuries and bystanders provided first aid before emergency crews arrived. Despite those efforts, he died at the scene. Police later charged a 20-year-old man over the incident, with charges including dangerous driving occasioning death and negligent driving occasioning death.

The two incidents have highlighted the serious risks associated with quad bike use, particularly in rural and regional communities where the vehicles are commonly used for farming, recreation and transport around properties. Quad bikes can be difficult to control on uneven surfaces, and crashes can result in severe injuries because riders are often exposed without the protection provided by a vehicle cabin.

In the Wodonga case, authorities are continuing to establish exactly what happened before the crash on Huon Creek Road. The preparation of a coroner's report means the circumstances surrounding the man's death will be formally examined.

The earlier Osborne incident has also caused significant distress in the small farming community. The local football and netball club said the man who died was a highly respected member of the community. Community representatives said support was being organised for residents affected by the tragedy.

With two fatal incidents occurring within a short period near the Victoria-NSW border, emergency services and local communities are again facing the consequences of serious quad bike crashes. Investigations into both incidents remain ongoing, and authorities will continue examining the circumstances surrounding each death.
