Kyogle Council has expressed disappointment after a break-in at the recently opened Mallanganee Lookout site in northern New South Wales. According to council representatives, thieves targeted the facility’s rear service area and removed critical electrical infrastructure used to power lighting and water systems at the observatory and amenities block. Officials said the damage has affected normal operations at the site and may delay full public access while repairs and replacements are arranged. The stolen equipment is estimated to be worth around $20,000. Police have been notified and investigations are underway. Community members with information about suspicious activity near the lookout have been encouraged to contact NSW Police.
