Victoria Police have arrested two men and a woman as part of an ongoing investigation into the fatal shooting of a 22-year-old man in Thomastown, in Melbourne’s north.

The incident occurred at a reserve on Victoria Drive in Thomastown on Sunday, 6 September 2026. Police and emergency services were called to the reserve shortly after 7:40pm following reports that a man had been shot.

Emergency services attended the scene and provided medical treatment to the victim. Despite those efforts, the 22-year-old Thomastown man died shortly afterwards. Police have since commenced a homicide investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting and determine what led to the man’s death.

Investigators continued their inquiries during the following days as they worked to identify people who may have information about the incident. Detectives from the Homicide Squad subsequently arrested three people in Deer Park at approximately 5:50pm on Wednesday, 9 September.

The people arrested include a 19-year-old man from Donnybrook, a 20-year-old man from Donnybrook and a 19-year-old woman from Lalor. All three were taken into custody and are being questioned by homicide investigators as police continue examining the circumstances of the shooting.

At the time of the latest police information, the three people had been arrested for questioning and police had not indicated that charges had been laid against them. Their arrest does not by itself establish criminal responsibility, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Detectives are expected to examine information gathered from the crime scene and other evidence as they attempt to build a clearer picture of what happened at the Thomastown reserve. Investigators may also seek information from members of the public who were in the area around the time of the shooting.

Fatal shootings are treated as serious investigations by Victoria Police, with homicide detectives working to establish the events before, during and after an incident. Investigators must determine the circumstances surrounding the death and establish whether further people were involved or have relevant information.

Police have urged anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity around Victoria Drive or the Thomastown reserve on the evening of 6 September to come forward with information. Members of the public who may have relevant information or footage can assist investigators as the case develops.

The arrests represent a significant development in the investigation, but police have stressed that inquiries are continuing. Detectives will now assess the information obtained during questioning and any other evidence gathered during the investigation.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation, and further police action may follow as detectives establish the full sequence of events.
