Three men have been charged after 34 firearms were allegedly stolen during a break-in at a property in Kanahooka, in the Illawarra region of New South Wales.

According to the New South Wales Police Force , officers from Lake Illawarra Police District began investigating on Tuesday, 29 September 2026, after receiving a report of a break and enter at a property on Kanahooka Road.

Police allege that a group entered the property sometime between 4pm on Monday, 28 September, and 12:20pm on Tuesday, 29 September. A number of items were reportedly taken, including 34 firearms, ammunition and jewellery. Detectives established a crime scene and launched an investigation under Strike Force Floren.

Following inquiries, police executed search warrants at five properties on Thursday, 1 October. The searches took place in Albion Park, Horsley, Dapto, Calderwood and Warrawong, with support from several specialist police teams, including the Lake Illawarra Proactive Crime Team, the Anti-Theft Unit, the Raptor Squad and the Southern Region Operational Support Group.

A 35-year-old man was arrested at a property in Albion Park. Police allege that three firearms and ammunition believed to be stolen were found during the search. He was charged with eight offences, including aggravated break and enter, possession of unauthorised firearms and possession of ammunition without a licence or authority.

A 46-year-old man was arrested at a property in Horsley. Police allege that items believed to have been used in the incident, as well as a small quantity of illicit drugs, were located during the search. He was charged with four offences, including aggravated break and enter, dealing with suspected proceeds of crime and acquiring a prohibited firearm while subject to a prohibition order.

A third man, aged 47, was arrested at a property in Dapto. He was charged with aggravated break and enter and acquiring a prohibited firearm while subject to a prohibition order.

All three men appeared before Bail Division Court 3 on Friday, 2 October, and were formally refused bail. Their next scheduled court appearance is at Wollongong Local Court on Wednesday, 9 December 2026.

Police have not stated that all 34 firearms have been recovered. Investigations into the alleged break-in remain ongoing, and further inquiries may establish whether other people were involved or whether additional property can be located.

The case highlights the importance of securing firearms and reporting suspected thefts to police. The charges are allegations, and the accused men are entitled to the presumption of innocence unless proven guilty in court.

Police are continuing their investigation under Strike Force Floren as the matter proceeds through the courts.
