Three teenagers have been charged following two separate incidents involving alleged break-ins and property damage at educational facilities in Far North Queensland. The cases were reported today, 31 August 2026, with the accused teenagers expected to appear in children's courts.

Police allege that a 13-year-old boy entered Flying Fish Point State School on Maud Street at about 11.30pm on Sunday, 30 August. Investigators allege significant damage was caused to school infrastructure and equipment, including approximately 20 classroom windows. The teenager was located nearby and arrested shortly afterwards.

The 13-year-old has been charged with wilful damage, trespassing, obstructing police and entering premises and committing an indictable offence. He was scheduled to appear before Innisfail Children's Court on Monday, 31 August.

A separate incident occurred two days earlier at Mayfield Early Education on Brose Street, White Rock. Police allege that a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old boy attempted to break into the childcare centre shortly before midday on Saturday, 29 August. A member of the public reportedly noticed the activity and contacted police.

Officers attended and arrested the two teenagers following a short foot chase. Police allege the teenagers were carrying property suspected to have been stolen. The 16-year-old was also allegedly found in possession of dangerous drugs.

Both teenagers have been charged with attempted entry to premises and possession of suspected stolen property. The 16-year-old also faces charges relating to possession of dangerous drugs and stealing, while the 15-year-old faces additional wilful-damage allegations.

Police allege both teenagers may also be connected to other incidents reported over recent months. Their matters were listed for Cairns Children's Court on 31 August after police bail was refused.

The incidents have raised concerns about security at schools and childcare facilities, particularly because the alleged offending involved damage to educational property and attempts to enter a childcare centre.

For schools and childcare operators, incidents such as these can create significant disruption. Damage to windows, classrooms and equipment can require repairs and may affect normal operations. Authorities and facility operators may also review security measures following alleged break-ins.

The investigation remains ongoing, and police may consider additional charges if further evidence connects the teenagers to other incidents.

It is important to note that the allegations have not been proven in court. The three teenagers are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty through the legal process.

The cases will now proceed through Queensland's youth justice system, where the courts will consider the allegations and evidence presented by prosecutors.
