Two teenage boys have been arrested following a violent disturbance at a school in Alice Springs, Northern Territory. The Northern Territory Police Force confirmed the arrests on Friday, 6 November 2026, following an incident that resulted in a temporary school lockdown.
According to police, the incident occurred on Thursday afternoon at a school located on Bloomfield Street in the suburb of Gillen.
At approximately 1:30 pm, the Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre received a report that four male youths had entered the school grounds while allegedly carrying weapons.
The school was placed into lockdown as a precaution while emergency services responded to the situation. The incident caused concern among school staff and students, with authorities working to ensure everyone's safety.
Police allege that the group threw objects at a school bus before attempting to enter a kitchen area by breaking a window and kicking doors. However, the individuals did not successfully gain access to the building.
Officers from Strike Force Viper attended the school and began investigating the disturbance. During the police response, two male youths, aged 14 and 16, were arrested.
The 14-year-old was subsequently charged with several offences, including engaging in violent conduct, possessing an offensive weapon, damaging property and trespassing.

Police confirmed that no injuries were reported during the incident. Following the police response and safety checks, the school was reopened a short time later.
However, the investigation remains ongoing. Two other alleged offenders have not yet been located, and Strike Force Viper continues to investigate their involvement.
Authorities have appealed to members of the public who may have witnessed the incident or have information that could assist investigators.
The incident has raised concerns about school safety and the potential risks associated with unauthorised access to school grounds. Schools are expected to provide a safe environment for students, teachers and other staff, making incidents involving alleged weapons and property damage particularly serious.
The temporary lockdown was an important precaution while police dealt with the situation. The absence of reported injuries was a positive development, although investigators are continuing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the disturbance.
